Govt (সরকার)'mocking'(তামাসা করা) people's hunger(জণগণের ক্ষুধা): BNP 

(জনগণের ক্ষুধা নিয়ে সরকার তামাসা করছে। )

BNP on Friday alleged(এলেজেড-- অভিযোগ করা ) that the government is 'mocking(মকিং—তামাসা করা) with the hunger of people" at this time of (সময়ে ) dangerous(ডেইনজারাস—ভয়াবহ) coronavirus pandemic(বিশ্ব মহামারী).

“Ministers(মন্ত্রীরা) and MPs(সংসদ সদস্যরা) are harvesting(ফসল কাটা) raw(কাঁচা) paddy (ধান)to show (দেখাতে) that they’re with farmers. This not the way(পদ্ধতি) of serving(সেবা করা) people. The government is mocking with the hunger of the poor instead of (পরিবর্তে)  tackling(মোকাবেলা) the famine-like(ফ্যামিন-লাইক—দুর্ভিক্ষের মতো) situation(অবস্থা) caused(যেটা ঘটেছে) by the pandemic(বিশ্ব মরামারীর কারণে),” said BNP senior joint secretary general (যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক)Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He came up with the remarks(মন্তব্যটি করেন) while distributing(বিতরণের সময়) relief(রিলিফ—ত্রাণ) materials(সামগ্রী) among(মাঝে) the destitute(সুবিধা বঞ্চিত মানুষ) in the city’s Modhubagh area at the initiative of(উদ্যোগে) Future Bangladesh, a pro-BNP(বিএনপি সমর্থীত) social organisation(সামাজিক সংগঠন).

The BNP leader called upon(আহ্বান জানানো) the government to take (গ্রহণ করতে) effective steps(কার্যকর পদক্ষেপ) to assuage(এসোয়েইজ—লাঘব করা/ কমানো) the sufferings(দুঃখ-কষ্ট) of the needy(দরিদ্র/ গরিব) people and save them from starvation(স্টারভেইশন—অনাহার).

Though (যদিও) BNP has not been in power (ক্ষমতায় নেই)for a long time(দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে), he said their party leaders and activists(এক্টিভিস্টস--- কর্মী) have continued(অব্যাহত রেখেছে) distributing relief materials among the poor as per their ability(তাদের সামর্থ অনুযায়ী).

“We’re standing beside(কারো পাশে দাঁড়ানো) the poor only to ease(ঈজ—যন্ত্রণা দূর করা) their sufferings, not to brighten (উজ্জ্বল করা) our image(ভাবমূর্তি),” he observed(মন্তব্য করা).

Rizvi claimed(দাবি করা) that their party is working for the poor irrespective(বিবেচনা না করে) of their political identity(রাজনৈতিক পরিচয়). “But the government has formed(ফর্ম- গঠন করা) relief committees at every ward comprising(সমন্বয় করে) the ruling party(ক্ষমতাসীন দল) leaders and activists(এক্টিভিস্টস--- কর্মী). Only people belonging  to(সমর্থন করা) Awami League are getting (পাচ্ছে)the relief as they politicised (রাজনীতিকরণ করা)the relief activities(ত্রাণ কার্যক্রম).”

As a result(এর ফলে), he alleged,  thousands of people are crying out(আর্তনাদ করা) for the relief and passing (অতিবাহিত করা) hard days(কঠিন দিন) without food. “Many people who become jobless(চাকরিহীন) are going through(মধ্যদিয়ে যাওয়া) a serious(কঠিন) ordeal(অগ্নিপরীক্ষা), but the government has no initiative(ইনিশিয়েটিভ—পদক্ষেপ) to remove(দূর করতে) their sufferings.”
